Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture rich in oils, allowing for effective body temperature regulation.
These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven knot by knot by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing overheating.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be placed on the floor, but also displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, one that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue and air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, a distinctive odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
