Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs made from plant-dyed wool, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel, achieved by using natural dyes on this wool and meticulously hand-weaving each strand by Iranian nomads. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, Gabbeh rugs also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated, preventing heat in summer.
And, above all, their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung cloth. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be slight distortions in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the unique charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used for the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
