Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran. These rugs are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made from plant-dyed wool with a long pile. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a good amount of lanolin for effective thermoregulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads from their imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dyes may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
