Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are dyed with plant-based dyes and made from wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which comes from its high fat content that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, one thread at a time, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can enjoy for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung out towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove any detergent residue, then dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Important Notes
Due to the nature of hand-weaving, there may be variations in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
