Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled, vegetable-dyed wool rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. Strongly woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their durability, said to last up to 100 years. Originating from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbeh are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a sensation of coolness. And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. How about finding your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for years to come?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For persistent stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven craftsmanship. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
