Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile rugs rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads who hand-weave them in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture is rich in natural oils, allowing for effective temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven thread by thread by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their soft, fluffy, and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme daily temperature fluctuations, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And, above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Precautions

Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, dyeing irregularities, etc. Please be aware that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pompoms can be removed before shipping

The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.

Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
