Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomadic people in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, indicating their exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also known for being warm in winter and airy in summer, making them comfortable even in hot weather. And, above all, their artistic quality is remarkable. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Points to Note
Due to hand-weaving, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
