Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday carpets hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbehs woven by Iranian nomads, where this wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven one thread at a time, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Gabbehs, born from the harsh climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also known for being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also displayed on walls as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dye used to color the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
