Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, handwoven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously handwoven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a sensation of coolness.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but they are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Vacuum or sweep in the direction of the pile to remove dirt and dust.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being handwoven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handweaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
Please note that this odor will gradually dissipate with use.
