Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are handwoven using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, essential for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a good amount of oil to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, woven by hand by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing heat retention.
And above all, there's their artistic quality. The designs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animals and plants, making each Gabbeh a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Vacuum or sweep along the pile to remove dirt and dust.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are handwoven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of handweaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinct odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request

The pom-poms on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if you request.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
