Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, plant-dyed wool rugs handwoven by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. The Gabbeh rugs are handwoven by Iranian nomads, meticulously weaving each strand of naturally dyed wool, giving them a plush and comfortable feel. These tightly woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool even in hot weather. And above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs, imagined by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find a special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Important Notes
Due to being handwoven, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a handwoven product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
