Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically traverse the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are crafted from vegetable-dyed wool and deeply rooted in everyday life. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps with body temperature regulation.
This wool is dyed with natural dyes and then meticulously hand-woven, knot by knot, by Iranian nomads, resulting in the characteristic plush and comfortable feel of Gabbeh rugs.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, testament to its superior durability.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing discomfort from heat.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively crafted by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They are not only perfect for placing on the floor but can also be displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, which may result in a distinctive odor from the dyes. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
