Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is soft to the touch and contains a lot of oil to help with temperature regulation and provide excellent durability, enabling survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains.
The Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand, strand by strand, by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are made to be cherished for a long time. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the unique charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As such, a distinctive scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
