Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomadic tribe, who hand-weave them in the Zagros Mountains of Iran using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and for its soft and pleasant texture, containing a high amount of oil to regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, strand by strand, using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And, above all, their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For persistent stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
