Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is soft to the touch, containing a lot of oil to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please consider these as part of the unique charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
