Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of fat to regulate body temperature well, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, made by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weaving each strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, thoroughly wipe with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dye used on the wool.
The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
