Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant feel due to its high fat content, which helps in body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs are made by hand-dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-weaving each strand by Iranian nomads, resulting in a fluffy and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created by the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
