Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled, hand-woven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing the sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils to regulate body temperature.
The Gabbeh, hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, is characterized by its plush and comfortable feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the unique characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, pattern distortion, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, a unique odor from the wool dyes may be present.
This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
