Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs made by the Qashqai nomads, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using wool dyed with natural plant dyes and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully hand-weaving this naturally dyed wool strand by strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung cloth or towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, then air dry in a well-ventilventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
