Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran. These rugs are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made from plant-dyed sheep's wool with a long pile. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, allowing the sheep to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and regulate their body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads by carefully weaving each strand of this natural dye-colored wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but they are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Important Notes
Due to the handmade nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we kindly ask for your understanding in advance.
