Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs, rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of oil to effectively regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, made by nomadic Iranians who carefully hand-weave each strand of this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy, preventing a feeling of heat, in summer.
And, above all, is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
Please note that this odor will gradually dissipate with use.
