Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, in Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are known as "Suzani" or "Silky Pich" and the city is registered as a kilim production site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Nomadic women weave them based on imagination without a pattern, and their delicacy and precision are astonishing. They are soumak woven, so the surface is not very fluffy, and animal and geometric patterns are common.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often feature deep colors, with red derived from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and are cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that grow richer in character with use. They are known as vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims depending on the era they were woven, and are loved by people of all ages. While most kilims are made of wool, some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They are characterized by geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups inhabit the vast land of Iran. The designs and colors differ by region of origin, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are not only used as rugs or floor coverings but are also widely utilized as decorative items for walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior elements. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive features, and they are often used as accents in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can create a life with art and comfort, enjoying a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
The use of kilims is highly flexible and they can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, introducing the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials can enhance the kilim's warmth and natural ambiance. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere, enhancing the overall feel of a room when placed on the floor or hung on a wall. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. Arranging them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you notice stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth or towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, weaving, and dyeing. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
