Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)

Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, in Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are known as "Suzani" or "Silky Pich" and the city is registered as a kilim production site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Nomadic women weave them based on imagination without a pattern, and their delicacy and precision are astonishing. They are soumak woven, so the surface is not very fluffy, and animal and geometric patterns are common.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often feature deep colors, with red derived from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco.
