Characteristics of the production area (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silky Pich," and the city is registered by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a kilim production area.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Nomadic women weave them based on imagination without a pattern, so their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are Soumak woven, with a surface that doesn't fray much, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Sirjan kilims also often have deep colors; red is extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks and tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and are cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. Depending on when they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the tribal or ethnic design styles known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The designs and colors vary by region, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other uses for kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple carpets or floor coverings but also as decorative items for walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior elements. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often used as an accent in a room. Kilims are not just decorative items; they are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can achieve a life with art and a comfortable life, enjoying surroundings filled with things you love.
Kilims and Interiors
Kilims are highly versatile and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, the unique patterns and colors of kilims can add an accent to a simple space. For natural and Scandinavian interiors, combining kilims with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials can enhance their warmth and natural ambiance. They also pair well with a Bohemian atmosphere, enhancing the overall feel of the room when laid on the floor or hung on the wall. Kilims have ethnic designs and a tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. Placing them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you are concerned about stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar cloth. Afterward, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, uneven weaving, and uneven dyeing. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
