Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile carpets deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses superior durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, offering a feeling of coolness.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can use for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
If requested, the pompoms on the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms to be removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
