Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads, who hand-weave them from vegetable-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Bakhsh wool used in this product possesses superior durability, essential for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for excellent thermoregulation.
Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weaving each strand, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last for 100 years.
Born from the climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, their artistic quality. The designs of Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-knotted item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
