Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-knotted rugs made by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool as part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high fat content for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool. These Gabbeh rugs, hand-knotted one by one by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction. If heavily soiled: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-knotted product. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
