Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Varied sheep wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously one by one by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs are warm in winter and airy in summer, giving a cool feeling.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbehs created by the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, thoroughly wipe with water to remove detergent residue, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dyes may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
