Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made from plant-dyed wool with long piles. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, and well-suited for temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, made by hand-dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously hand-knotting each thread by the Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Gabbeh rugs, born from the drastic temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing you from feeling hot. And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the nomads' imaginations, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be placed on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are hand-knotted, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-knotted items. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dyes may be present. The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
