Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool with a long pile, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
These Gabbehs, hand-woven meticulously one by one by Iranian nomads using natural dyes on this wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable they are said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbehs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please be aware that these are all part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed for shipping.
If you request, the pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the Gabbeh shipped without pom-poms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
