Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads who weave them by hand using plant-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.

These Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads by hand, strand by strand, using wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.

Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.

Gabbeh, born from the climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool. Another characteristic is their ability to withstand heat.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.

For noticeable stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the unique charm of hand-woven items.

Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pom-poms can be removed upon request

The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.

Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
