Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously one by one by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be hung on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
