Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, handwoven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
These wools are dyed with natural dyes and handwoven by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, creating a plush and comfortable Gabbeh.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing discomfort from heat.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being handwoven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a handwoven product.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique scent from the dyes used to color the wool.
The scent will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
