Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of Iran's Zagros Mountains, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, essential for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of natural oils, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, and adept at regulating body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, handcrafted by Iranian nomads who dye this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weave each strand, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, demonstrating its superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, providing a comfortable feel even in hot weather.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are meant to be used for a long time; why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and variations in dye. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
