Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterwards, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
