Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content that allows for effective temperature regulation.
The wool is dyed with natural dyes, and Gabbehs woven carefully by hand, knot by knot, by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Gabbehs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being a unique original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also hung on walls as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh that is uniquely yours and can be cherished for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please understand these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed upon request
The pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
