Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile carpets handwoven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their lifestyle. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content, allowing for good body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran who hand-weave each strand after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool sensation.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original item, no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to the handwoven nature, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortions, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handweaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
