Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool to create long-pile, functional rugs. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and its rich lanolin content gives it a soft and pleasant texture, adept at regulating body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and delightful feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their durability, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing overheating.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not discover your own special Gabbeh rug, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping upon request.
If you prefer, we can remove the pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
