Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads inhabiting the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool with a long pile, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously one by one by Iranian nomads from this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, demonstrating its superior durability.
Born from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool even in hot weather.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as a piece of art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For noticeable stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to their hand-woven nature, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please appreciate these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive smell from the wool dye may be present.
While the smell will gradually dissipate with use, please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed upon shipment
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
