Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads of Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool to create long-pile rugs deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product comes from sheep that thrive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possessing excellent durability and a high lanolin content for superior temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling fibers.
These wool fibers are then dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads, giving Gabbeh rugs their distinctive plush and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are known for their exceptional durability, said to last 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme daily temperature fluctuations, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing overheating.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each piece unique and one-of-a-kind.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap of the rug.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel thoroughly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterwards, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please appreciate these as part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As such, a distinctive odor from the wool dyes may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
