Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads, who herd in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as soft and pleasant-to-the-touch hair rich in oils for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, with this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool feeling.
And, above all, their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via the email or phone number below.
