Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are long-pile rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool, deeply rooted in their way of life. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing it to withstand the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and for its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, crafted by Iranian nomads meticulously hand-weaving each strand of this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind creation.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the nature of hand-weaving, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, a unique odor from the wool dyes may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
