Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. These rugs are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and contains abundant natural oils, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture that helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor, of course, but are also artistic enough to be hung on a wall. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, one that you can use for a long time? Daily Care Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area. Important Notes Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used to color the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance. Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.

The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping. Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
