Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads living in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using natural dyes on this wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.

Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years. Born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If cleaning is needed: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pompoms can be removed upon shipment

The pompoms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.

Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
