Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. These are long-pile rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product comes from sheep that live in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains. This wool has excellent durability to survive such conditions and contains a high amount of lanolin, making it soft to the touch and effective at regulating body temperature.
The Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing you from feeling hot.
And above all, there's their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but they are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If it's particularly dirty: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and variations in dye. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
If requested, the pom-poms on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh rug can be removed before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
