Characteristics of the Region (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in the southern part of Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are sometimes called "Suzani" or "Silki Pich," and the region is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a kilim-producing area.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and robust weave. Woven by nomadic women based on their imagination without a design pattern, their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are made with a Soumak weave, which results in a surface with very little fluff, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often boast deep colors, with red derived from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly esteemed worldwide and cherished as beautiful crafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular and are traditional hand-woven textiles that become more beautiful with age. Depending on when they were woven, they are referred to as vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are beloved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. They utilize natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are robustly woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has its own unique design.
Various ethnic groups inhabit the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics differ by region of origin, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are not only used as rugs or floor coverings but are also widely utilized as decorative items for walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior spaces. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often used as accents in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items; they enrich the overall ambiance of a room and serve as an important element that highlights individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to any living space. By incorporating kilims, you can create a life filled with art and comfort, enjoying a home surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
The versatility of kilims makes them suitable for various interior styles. In modern interiors, incorporating the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent. For natural or Nordic interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials enhances the kilim's warmth and natural ambiance. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere; laying them on the floor or hanging them on the wall enhances the overall feel of the room. Kilims feature ethnic designs and a tribal aesthetic, making them compatible with interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. Placing them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If stains are a concern, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or color variations. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
