Characteristics of the region (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, part of Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are also known as "Suzani" or "Silky Pichi," and the city is registered by UNESCO as a kilim-producing region.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely dense and firm weave. Woven by nomadic women based on their imagination without a pattern, their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are sumak woven, with a surface that doesn't fuzz much, and animal and geometric patterns are often seen.
Sirjan kilims also feature many deep colors; red is extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. These characteristics have earned Sirjan kilims high acclaim worldwide and made them cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that grow richer in character with use. Depending on the era they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some kilims using cotton or silk are also produced. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics differ by region, allowing you to enjoy diverse design patterns.
Other uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as carpets or floor coverings but also as decorative items on walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior elements. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often utilized as accents in a room. Kilims are not just decorative items; they are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can create a life with art and a comfortable life, enjoying a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
Kilims offer great flexibility in how they can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, introducing the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent to that space. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, pairing kilims with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials enhances their warmth and natural ambiance. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere; by laying them on the floor or hanging them on the wall, they enhance the overall feel of the room. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal feel, making them a good match for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. Arranging them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If it's noticeably dirty, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung out towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, weave inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
