Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh

Gabbeh rugs are long-piled rugs woven by hand by the Qashqai nomads who graze their livestock in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, made by hand-dyeing this wool with natural dyes and meticulously weaving each strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

As these are hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Tassels can be removed before shipping

The tassels attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if you request it.
Removing the tassels does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
