Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads who herd in Iran's Zagros Mountains, hand-woven from plant-dyed sheep's wool. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, from this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable they are said to last 100 years. Born from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And, above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, dye inconsistencies, etc. Please be aware that these are all part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dyes used for the wool may be present. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon shipment
The pom-poms attached to the corners or sides of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
