Characteristics of Persian Hand-knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-knotted rugs made by the Qashqai nomads, who wander the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a lot of oil to help regulate body temperature.
These wools are dyed with natural dyes and then meticulously hand-knotted, strand by strand, by Iranian nomads, resulting in Gabbeh rugs that are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing it from feeling hot.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs that you can use for a long time – why not find your own special one?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-knotted, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-knotted items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon shipment

If requested, the pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
