Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh Gabbeh rugs are handwoven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran. These long-piled rugs are an integral part of their daily life, made from plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and for its soft, pleasant feel, containing a high amount of natural oils to regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs are characterized by their plush and comfortable texture, created by Iranian nomads who hand-weave each one meticulously after dyeing the wool with natural dyes. A well-woven Gabbeh is exceptionally durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also known for being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And of course, there's their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a lifetime? Daily Care Use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove dirt and dust along the nap of the rug. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar cloth. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area. Important Notes As these are handwoven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and variations in dye. Please consider these as part of the charm of a handwoven product. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used on the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance. Pom-poms can also be removed for shipping.

If you prefer, we can remove the pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh before delivery. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
